About Forcalquier
A historic town, Forcalquier has an exceptional culture and heritage. Some even consider it “the most beautiful town in the world”. In Forcalquier, there are many places to see.
Formerly the Castle of the Counts of Forcalquier, the citadel now harbours many attractions. We recommend that you stroll through the alleys and let yourself be tempted by the many restaurants and small shops.
Forcalquier’s main attractions:
- La chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Provence in neo-Byzantine style.
- Les Mourres ; consists entirely of limestone formed by erosion, there are rocks more than 20 metres high. Mourre in Provençal means head.
- Couvent des cordeliers, located outside the city walls, is one of the oldest Franciscan monasteries in France, as well as home to the European University of Flavours and Scents. Free entry to the gardens and monastery.
- Forcalquier cemetery is also one of the most beautiful in Europe, classified as a historical monument because of its sculpted yew trees.

Forcalquier is a place where you can practice all sorts of activities. You can go hiking to see the wonders of the town. Whether on horseback, by bike or on foot, you can discover the town through its various paths. Choose an unusual activity by climbing aboard a hot air balloon in Haute Provence. You will enjoy a breathtaking view over the whole valley.
