Cians Gorges
Nicknamed the "Little Colorado", the Cian Gorges are located northeast of Castellane. From white to bright red, the colourful landscape mixed with turquoise water. The Gorges du Cians will not fail to impress! They are surrounded by majestic nature, crossed by a river whose source is in the Mercantour National Park in the Alpes Maritimes.
With a magnificent forest of oaks and pines, the Gorges du Cians are home to many protected animal species. Extraordinary and impressive, each rock wall is unique and shows the erosive force of the Cians. One thing is certain: this canyon worthy of the greatest film sets will amaze you.
Little Colorado
In the lower Cians Gorges, the road follows sinuous contours dug into the red rocks, covered by clay and limestone.
The upper Cians Gorges, from Beuil towards Pra-d'Astier, have vertical slopes, jagged or with large smooth surfaces. The most beautiful trails are the “Petite Clue” and the “Grande Clue” which you can explore off the main road on foot. Where the Gorges are narrowest, the two opposite walls are only 1 metre apart.
On the way to the picturesque village of Beuil, these two walking trails will take you to the heart of this natural jewel:
-
- The “Petite Clue” of the Cians Gorges: admire breathtaking landscapes with waterfalls in the middle of blood-red rocks
-
- The “Grande Clue”: the most impressive place in the canyon! Indeed, you will have the chance to be truly surrounded by very narrow rocks.
