Discover the Bridal Veil Waterfall
Discover the Bridal Veil Waterfall
Located at an altitude of 1600 metres at the foot of the glaciers in Valgaudémar, in the heart of the Écrins National Park, find the "Voile de la Mariée" (or Bridal Veil) waterfall, a breathtaking cascade. Nestled between the Northern and Southern Alps, this area is renowned for being historic and untouched. The preservation of its flora and fauna makes the place even more incredible for visitors who can enjoy this still wild setting. Known for its hiking trails, you will surely come across marmots, chamois or an ibex! This spot is a little corner of paradise for nature lovers.
The unmissable beauty of the Bridal Veil in the Alps
At the very end of Valgaudémar, you will find high mountains that delight hikers. This is the start of a trail to reach the high peaks of Cirac or Rouies without forgetting the famous Bridal Veil waterfall, emblematic of the region. The cascade owes its name to the length, whiteness and lightness of its fall.
The preserved corner of the Valgaudémar Valley is a mountain paradise: it is nature in its purest form, in all its beauty. Discover a narrow and steep valley, about thirty kilometres long, penetrating into the Ecrins National Park. Lionel Terray (great mountaineer of the 1950s) described this valley as "the most Himalayan in Europe" in particular because of its relief.
The Parc des Ecrins: a paradise for hikers
In addition, the Ecrins National Park, where the Bridal Veil Waterfall is located, boasts 300 kilometres of paths and has 33 marked routes allowing tourists to discover torrents, waterfalls, lakes, summits, glaciers, ibexes, chamois, marmots and more. Indeed, the Ecrins National Park is home to more than 1800 plant species and 350 animal species. You can also, during your hikes, pick and taste the little delicacies offered by nature (blueberries, raspberries and wild strawberries). In the colder months, the Alps attract skiers and winter sport enthusiasts. Hikes give way to snowshoeing, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and even ice climbing.
