Considered a natural gem, it is a major tourist attraction in France, one of the must-see sites in Verdon. This heavenly location, larger than its neighbour the Lac d'Esparron, offers a wide choice of activities to delight families, lovers of sports and thrill seakers.
A major tourist destination
The Sainte-Croix Lake covers approximately 2,200 hectares and is 93 metres deep. Its length and width are 11 and 5 km respectively. In addition, this majestic place is forbidden to motor boats, which ensures peace and respect for the environment.
Brief history of Sainte-Croix Lake
The Sainte-Croix Lake is the result of a project dating back to 1908 which aimed to create a lake on the French river Verdon from the valley of Les Salles. The project was carried out by Electricité de France in 1973, after the construction of the Sainte-Croix dam. Today, this water reservoir is one of the largest French lakes. It is bordered by three villages: Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, Bauduen and Les Salles-sur-Verdon.
