Vieux-Port de Marseille
The old port
An emblematic place in Marseille.
You can stroll along the quays, admire the boats, have a drink or eat at the restaurant facing the sea!
The old port of Marseille is the meeting place of the Marseillais! It can be the starting point towards the discovery of this beautiful city.
On foot, we recommend that you walk along the port towards Fort Saint Jean, taking the footbridge towards the Mucem.
You can visit one of the exhibitions at the Mucem or, nearby, the reconstitution of the Cosquer cave at the Villa Mediterrannée.
A few steps further, you will see the Major Cathedral, an architectural jewel of Marseille.
From there, you will have two options: the first is to head towards the Joliette district to visit the Docks and the Terrasses du Port, ideal for a shopping trip.
The second option is more authentic. You can stroll through the old Panier district and lose yourself in the narrow streets. you will find bars and ice cream shops surrounding a small square.
When staying with us at the Hippocampe, a visit to the Old Port of Marseille is a must!
